Senase, Ghana

I had an amazing 4 days in Senase, Ghana visiting and volunteering at the Semanhiya School.  This school was started by Fred Benneh who grew up in Senase.  It is in an area that is extremely poor, but Fred always had a dream to build a school for his community.  His story is an amazing story.  He has a very strong connection to Semester at Sea.  Fred is an amazing man!  As part of our time volunteering we did several painting projects around the school.  It was such a positive place to be and all of our students were moved by it.  Many of the students have plans to fundraise for the school in the future (running marathons, etc.).

Penguins in S. Africa

Went to Went to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town as part of my tour.  Loved the views!  Met so many nice people. Went to see the penguins of S.Africa at Boulder’s Beach.  This was part on the tour that included The Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain.  Tom was not feeling well, so he stayed on the ship.  The penguins were just too cute.

Bankok

Well we survived the 18 hours of fling and arrived safely in Bankok.  It is 95 degrees here and 195% humidity.  There is a lot to see in Bankok and the Thai people are just so lovely.  We visited several ruins of ancient temples.  Learned that Wat means temple in Thai.  Yesterday we took a Longboat ride on the canals and were told that Bankok is sometimes called the Venic of the East.  I will share several pictures here.  The Golden Buddha was amazing.  Notice how different the Thai Buddha looks from the Chinese Buddha we are all used to seeing.
