CapeTown cont’d.

What a magical city this has been to visit.  The scenery, especially along the coast, is spectacular.  The rock formation of the mountains are just beautiful!  Tom had a field class to Stellenbosch (45 minutes outside CapeTown) to which companions are not invited. I Ubered it in the same direction and booked a Spa Day for myself.  It was heaven: massage, facial and lunch all included.  Stellenbosch is an adorable town in Wine  country.  The next day we set off on a 2 day safari to Aquila Game Reserve about 3 hours away.  It was a lovely lodge and we saw so many amazing animals.  Unfortunately Tom was not feeling well on Friday, so I ventured out alone to Cape Point, The Penguins on Boulders Beach, and Table Mountain. What a glorious day I had. We started out shrouded in fog and by 10 it began to clear and we ended with a beautiful afternoon.  You will see this evidenced in the pictures.  I also made a few friends on the tour, a lovely young man named Ronnie from Charleston SC, and a couple from London, Gerry and Rita with roots in Dublin.  My pictures tell the story.

The girls pictured above are students on Semester at Sea who I bumped into on my way up to the lighthouse.  Anna Hill, on the left, goes to NC State.  I will share my penguins pictures in the next port. Due to weak wifi they are not downloading.  We are on the ship for 6 days and then dock in Ghana.  It is hard to believe how fast the time is going.  Miss you all.

Penguins in S. Africa

Went to Went to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town as part of my tour.  Loved the views!  Met so many nice people. Went to see the penguins of S.Africa at Boulder’s Beach.  This was part on the tour that included The Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain.  Tom was not feeling well, so he stayed on the ship.  The penguins were just too cute.

Penang

Greetings from Malaysia!  We arrived in port this morning and toured the city with a guide.  He gave us a lot of the history from the colonial building built by the British to Thai and Burmese temples.  He also pointed out luxury condos and home owned by Chinese investors.  He told us that Penang was 60% Chinese.  Others have told us more like 40-50%.  He said the Chinese residents are mainly from Singapore.  Tomorrow morning Tom and I will both chaperone walking tours in the Georgetown section of Penang.  You can see the British influence in the name.  Here are a few pictures from today.  Plus a sunrise off the ship. Bankok

Well we survived the 18 hours of fling and arrived safely in Bankok.  It is 95 degrees here and 195% humidity.  There is a lot to see in Bankok and the Thai people are just so lovely.  We visited several ruins of ancient temples.  Learned that Wat means temple in Thai.  Yesterday we took a Longboat ride on the canals and were told that Bankok is sometimes called the Venic of the East.  I will share several pictures here.  The Golden Buddha was amazing.  Notice how different the Thai Buddha looks from the Chinese Buddha we are all used to seeing.
