Cape Town, S. Africa

We arrived in Cape Town on March 2nd.  We immediately got a 2 day pass for the Hop On, Hop Off bus. What a great way to see Cape Town.  Cape Town is a beautiful city with a rich history, some good, some bad.  I rented a 2 bedroom Airbnb for two nights and invited our friend, Traci to join us.  It was very close to Table Mountain and near lots of great restaurants.  The bus has different lines.  The red line took us through the city and out along the coast,  Yesterday, we began our day with a walking tour of downtown Cape Town and then we took the Blue to the Purple which took us past beautiful homes and out to a winery where we had lunch.  We met Amy, a fellow American from Rockland County, NY who now lives in San Francisco.

She joined us for lunch.  As we headed back to our Airbnb we drove past a township, so we saw how the Haves and Havenots in Cape Town live.  We again drove along the coasts for beautiful views.  Tomorrow Tom has a field class with students and I will find my own adventure.  On the 6th we head off on an overnight Safari.  We are all happy to have 8 days in Cape Town.

Penguins in S. Africa

Went to Went to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town as part of my tour.  Loved the views!  Met so many nice people. Went to see the penguins of S.Africa at Boulder’s Beach.  This was part on the tour that included The Cape of Good Hope and Table Mountain.  Tom was not feeling well, so he stayed on the ship.  The penguins were just too cute.

Penang

Greetings from Malaysia!  We arrived in port this morning and toured the city with a guide.  He gave us a lot of the history from the colonial building built by the British to Thai and Burmese temples.  He also pointed out luxury condos and home owned by Chinese investors.  He told us that Penang was 60% Chinese.  Others have told us more like 40-50%.  He said the Chinese residents are mainly from Singapore.  Tomorrow morning Tom and I will both chaperone walking tours in the Georgetown section of Penang.  You can see the British influence in the name.  Here are a few pictures from today.  Plus a sunrise off the ship. Bankok

Well we survived the 18 hours of fling and arrived safely in Bankok.  It is 95 degrees here and 195% humidity.  There is a lot to see in Bankok and the Thai people are just so lovely.  We visited several ruins of ancient temples.  Learned that Wat means temple in Thai.  Yesterday we took a Longboat ride on the canals and were told that Bankok is sometimes called the Venic of the East.  I will share several pictures here.  The Golden Buddha was amazing.  Notice how different the Thai Buddha looks from the Chinese Buddha we are all used to seeing.
